Abstract

Cardiovascular prevention is a set of actions at the social and individual level aimed at eliminating or minimizing the number of cardiovascular diseases (CVD). This, in turn, contributes to reducing mortality and disability among the population. The article describes modern guidelines for the prevention of CVD according to the la-
test guidelines of the European Society of Cardiology (2016). Knowledge about the main strategies for the prevention of CVD, namely population, high risk and secondary prevention, are presented. Considerable attention is paid to the practical aspects — implementation of four consecutive stages of cardiovascular prevention, as well as recommendations for modification of lifestyle and pharmacotherapy to reduce cardiovascular risk.
